It Takes More Than A Hammer And Nails
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25
Dear Friends,
I listened to a song titled “Hammer and Nails”. The song was written by Aaron Schroeder and David Hill. The song was originally sung by the Staple Singers. The version I listened to was sung by Gov’t Mule. The refrain of the song is, “It takes more than a hammer and nails to make a house a home”.
I guess I listened more to this song today than other times. My family is on my mind more than other days. Yesterday, September 20, was my grandson’s birthday. His older brother’s birthday is on Monday, September 24. They live outside Seattle with my daughter and her husband.
I also have a granddaughter in North Carolina. My daughter and my granddaughter’s father are divorced. Both my granddaughter’s father and my daughter love my granddaughter very much. On October 6, my daughter will remarry another gentleman who loves my daughter and granddaughter very much.
My parents, my daughter, her family from Seattle, and Nancy and I will fly out to North Carolina to join in the celebration. My daughter from Seattle will be the Matron of Honor. Another woman will be the Maid of Honor. My granddaughter will be the Mermaid of Honor. (Long story) I will get to walk my daughter down the aisle.
Nancy and I have been married 38 years. We are happy with our family and the place they find themselves. I would like to say we have the secret to a strong family. We don’t.
The song I mentioned above talks of a firm foundation. I believe the firm foundation is Jesus Christ. I think through Jesus Christ we are given guidelines and directions for what a good family should be.
However, there is a more important part of that foundation. That foundation is to face my shortcomings as a husband and father and live in the forgiveness I have through Jesus Christ.
I believe that is the strongest foundation for any family.
May the forgiveness of Jesus Christ be your foundation.
Peace,
